If you know a school student with special needs who may be eligible for services in addition to what they already receive at school in order to reach their full potential, you cannot miss the Eighth Annual Fair for Transitioning Students with Disabilities: from Eligibility to Employment and Beyond! hosted by the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District SEPTA and Community Parent Center on January 6th , 2015, at Sanford H. Calhoun High School,1786 State St. in Merrick, New York, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (In the event of inclement weather we have a rain date of January 13th) This event has become one of the premiere transition events on Long Island, attracting over 200 attendees and now over 75 service agencies presenting a step by step overview of the transitioning process, from eligibility determination through employment and supported living options for people with special needs. As in the past, the evening will begin with open registration followed by an all-inclusive performance by Express Yourself! and keynote speakers who will add a very personal perspective to the process. Also, as in the past, participating agencies and others will have information tables open throughout the event.
The Transition Fair will have a workshop format with targeted presentations on a wide variety of subjects from self-determination to special needs trusts to social security benefits to Medicaid and Non-Medicaid services by experts in the field of disabilities rights and services. The very popular Student Workshop will return as well, with presentations by Bellmore-Merrick student/alumni who have already taken part in pre-vocational and vocational experiences, followed by a guided scavenger hunt through the information tables ending with a party with prizes. Pre-Registration is open now, until the day of the event, January 6, 2015. All inquiries can be made to [email protected] 516-378-3509 Have a happy and healthy holiday season. I hope to see you January 6th ,2015 . Cheryl Gitlitz Comments are closed.
