BMUST belongs to the Long Island Teachers’ Benevolent Fund (LITBF), which offers a yearly scholarship, (the Len Motisi Memorial Scholarship) to high school seniors graduating this year, who will be attending a post-secondary institution on a full time basis and whose parent is an active teacher in a Long Island local. Many of our members’ sons and daughters have been awarded this scholarship over the years.

The attached application must be sent back to the BMUST office no later than March 3, 2023 to get my signature on it and for me to send it to LITBF before the deadline of March 10, 2023. 

You must include a copy of the school transcript, with the current GPA on it.  If the transcript does not contain the GPA, your Guidance Counselor must submit a statement with the scores. Please fill the form in as soon as possible and forward it to me through interoffice mail.

Please note, you are now required to include your NYSUT Member Number on the application. If unknown, please reach out to Meg in the BMUST office.

NYSED's Blue-Ribbon Commission on Graduation Requirements has moved up the timeline for collecting input from dateholders to July 2023 from July 2024.  If you would like to share your feelings on graduation requirements, please read the following and click on the Thought Exchange link.

RobThe New York State Education Department (NYSED) is engaging education stakeholders as they convene a Blue Ribbon Commission to take a look at graduation requirements for New York state students.  As you will recall, we shared the first set of questions from SED several weeks ago – the Commission has now posted additional questions for which they are looking for feedback.
NYSUT’s representative to the Commission, Jo James, shared with us the Thought Exchange.  NYSED is also engaging educators via social media.
 Please take a moment to provide your thoughts with SED and feel free to share this Thought Exchange with your colleagues.

• What opportunities, experiences, and courses should be available to students in High School that align with their needs, dreams, and career exploration? Which of those should be mandatory?
