GENERAL MEMBERSHIP
There must be at least one General Membership meeting at least once a year made up of all members. Any item involving the Constitution or a change in our contract must be submitted to the membership for final action.
THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY
In each school of the District, faculty members of this Association who are in good standing shall elect for a term of two years one Faculty Representative to the Representative Assembly for each twelve members or major fraction thereof. There shall be at least one Rep. from each building. Where more than one such Rep. is elected, one shall be elected Head Building Rep., who shall serve a two year term. Elections shall be held in June and Reps. shall take their seats at the regular June Assembly meeting.
The Assembly is the principal legislative body of the Association where all proposals are discussed and acted upon. The Assembly meets once each month. The Board of Trustees, through its president, shall prepare the agenda for each meeting and shall circulate it to all members of the Assembly so that representatives have time to discuss it with their faculty members in advance of the Assembly meeting. All Association members are encouraged to attend, and may voice their opinions, but they may not make motions or vote.
THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees is the executive body of the Association, made up of the officers, Head Building Representatives, the President of the Bellmore-Merrick Paraprofessional Association, and the President of the Bellmore-Merrick Retired Teachers Association. They carry out those policies adopted by the Representative Assembly and recommend action to that body and the general membership. All Trustees are elected for two year terms, in odd numbered years. Committee chairpersons are non-voting members of the Board of Trustees. The Trustees meet once a month, in executive session. Reports of each session are made to the next Representative Assembly meeting.
OFFICERS
The President, First and Second Vice Presidents and the Treasurer, carry out the day to day functions and policies of the Association as determined by the Representative Assembly.
ELECTIONS
Elections are held bi-annually in the Spring and are governed by the Landrum-Griffin Act. Voting is conducted by secret ballot in each building throughout the school day. Nominations are made by petition in April by the membership. When vacancies occur, they are filled in a similar manner within thirty days in the appropriate building
