Colleagues,
As many of you know, BMUST and the BMCHSD lost an incredible educator and an even better human being with the passing of Betsy Siegelaub. Betsy is survived by her devoted husband Marc and loving son Nathan. Together with her family, the Mepham World Language Department is establishing a scholarship fund in Betsy’s memory, with the goals of honoring and remembering her legacy and recognizing a Mepham student that demonstrates excellence in world language and chooses to pursue a degree in world language or education in his or her college studies. If you would like to contribute, please follow the link below to a GoFundMe page for the Betsy Siegelaub Memorial Scholarship Fund. https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-betsy-siegelaub-memorial-scholarship-fund?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 Thank you and please continue to keep Betsy’s family in your thoughts. In a sign of unity and support for one another, teachers across Long Island will be wearing “Red for Ed” on Friday, March 12 - almost exactly a year to the day that our schools were closed in March of 2020. It is hard to believe that a year ago I had never once uttered the words ZOOM, Google Meets, remote, virtual or hybrid when discussing my school day. Additionally, BMUST would like Friday to be a “jeans” day to collect funds for the Community Cupboard. As difficult as this past year has been, and I know it has been incredibly difficult, I consider myself lucky to have my job and my benefits when so many in our community have lost so very much. During the pandemic, the Cupboard has continued to do remarkable work, feeding sixty to eighty BMCHSD families every two weeks and even more around the holidays. I hope you will join me in wearing “Red for Ed” on Friday, March 12th and, if you are able, to support the Community Cupboard. Thank you for the amazing work you continue to do each and every day. I am blessed to work with and alongside such an incredible teaching staff. The BMCHSD community is blessed to have you all educating their children. Continue to take good care of yourselves and of one another. In Solidarity, Rob Meg HirschWed, Feb 3, 2:05 PM (22 hours ago)

to bcc: me As a reminder, BMUST is working with the Community Cupboard this year to fulfill holiday wish lists for some of the families who utilize the Cupboard. If you'd like to buy a gift for someone, we've created sign-ups for both children and adults who could use a little extra help this holiday season. Those who simply wish to donate to our fund can do so via Venmo (@BMUST). All money collected will go towards purchasing wish list items. Any small, unopened items, you might have around the house, will gladly be accepted as stocking stuffers. Gift Collection boxes will be located in the faculty rooms and monitored by members of our Womens' Committee (see below). Items can also be sent directly to the Union Office at Brookside via interoffice mail. Please send gifts to the Union Office by Friday, December 11, in order to be sorted and distributed on December 17. Thank you for your generosity and support!
