Please read this important message below that I received
From: Long Island President's Council <info@longislandteachers.org> Date: Thu, May 5, 2016 at 3:45 PM Subject: LIPC TOPIC: PLEASE HELP_MAY 17TH To: president@bmust.net Greetings, Mark Steinberg. Forum: General discussion Title: “Strength in numbers.” This simple concept is the core of our union. Loss of local control is simply unacceptable and there is one major way we can help gain some of that control back. As local leaders we need to do everything we can to get our members out to the polls on May 17th to vote for local school budgets and union endorsed BOE trustees. Individual locals often stick their necks out to endorse particular candidates for very real reasons. I ask….NO…I IMPLORE you to get your members to vote for local union endorsed candidates…and insist that they get their families, friends, neighbors, acquaintances to do the same. Babylon Teachers’ Association has endorsed 2 NYSUT members… 1a: Dave Sonkin 3a: Elizabeth Altbacker (incumbent) (we had to make a tough decision to turn away another NYSUT member because of the importance of removing one of the incumbents from the BOE… 4 candidates for 2 spots) This is one of the most important races for us in recent times. Please spread the word for all of those locals that feel it necessary to endorse BOE candidates. We deserve each other’s support. In solidarity, Rob Richardelli President, Babylon TA Hello,
The Budget vote is around the corner, and we must show our support now more than ever! With the governor holding back funds and information, we need to gather as a community and work together to pass the budget. Our annual phone banks will be held on Monday, May 9 andTuesday, May 10 from 3:00-6:30 pm at the NYSUT Office in Woodbury (see directions below). If you would like to volunteer, please write your name on the sign-up sheet in the faculty room and check off the date you will be able to join us or contact your head building representative and give him or her that information. Refreshments will be served. DIRECTIONS: LIE to exit 45 (Manetto Hill Rd) toward Plainview/Woodbury. Take the ramp toward Woodbury. Turn slight right onto Manetto Hill Rd. Turn right onto Woodbury Rd. Proceed less than ¼ mile to 1000 Woodbury Rd located on the right side. **Suite #214** Heather Castellano Political Action & VOTE COPE Chair To all Babylon Residents,
Please contact me with any questions about the Board Election in Babylon. We have a fabulous ally in Elizabeth Altbacker, incumbent, and David Sonkin who is a new candidate yet has received the BTA endorsement. I would be very happy to explain to you why the other incumbent seeking re election is NOT a good choice for the community. Thank you!!! Ann Donaldson/JFK 516 639 0647 Attached to this email is a list of all the school board candidates in Nassau and Suffolk that have been endorsed by NYSUT locals. Please distribute this list to your members and encourage those who live in the school districts listed to vote for the candidates endorsed by NYSUT locals. We anticipate additional endorsements may be forthcoming and we will inform you of those as we receive them. Thank you for your assistance!
