School-Related Professionals Recognition Day

11/19/2024

In New York State, the third Tuesday of every November has been designated as School-Related Professionals Recognition Day.  Today, Tuesday November 19th, please join me in thanking our food service workers, our security teams, and our custodial, clerical and support staff for their hard work and effort on behalf of our school community.  Their commitment and dedication has always been vital to the work we do with our students. As we honor and thank our school-related professionals, I want to particularly highlight our paraprofessional staff.  Your direct work with students - supporting their academic growth, providing one-on-one assistance, and offering emotional support - transforms lives daily. You are often the first to notice when a student needs a little something extra and the last to leave until it is provided.
The paraprofessional unit continues to thrive under the exceptional leadership of President Michele Lynott and Vice-President Cathy Sheehan. Their tireless advocacy ensures our paraprofessionals have the resources and support needed to excel in their crucial roles.
To every school-related professional, please know that your commitment to helping our students does not go unnoticed.  You are essential partners in our educational community, and we are grateful for your service.

Holiday Wish List & Upcoming Events

11/1/2024

Dear Members,

BMUST is proud to, once again, be working with the Community Cupboard to fulfill holiday wish lists for some of the families who utilize the Cupboard.
If you'd like to buy a gift for someone, we've created Children and Adult sign-ups for families who could use a little extra help this holiday season.

Those who simply wish to donate to our fund can do so via Venmo (@BMUST, last four digits 7840). All money collected will go towards purchasing wish list items.

Any unopened items you might have around the house, will gladly be accepted as well. Gift Collection boxes will be located in the faculty rooms and monitored by members of our Womens' Committee.

Suggested gift card amount: $20
Gifts should be unwrapped and labeled with your name and/or the age & gender listed.
Items can be sent directly to Meg Hirsch, at Brookside, or dropped in the collection box in your building by Friday, December 6.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

  • Register here - NRO 2024 Fall Workshop Series
To the right of each workshop listed, you will notice how many seats are remaining. Once a workshop reaches the set capacity, you’ll have the option to be added to the waitlist. If it is a workshop you wanted to attend, please join the waitlist! The size of the waitlist will help us determine if we can add seats or look to add an additional date for a particular workshop to accommodate demand.
In addition to the offerings above, we will hold a Presidents’ Roundtable on November 18th and the Board Elections workshop on January 11th (presented jointly with the Suffolk Regional Office). We are also working on planning and securing dates for our SRP Dinner and Leadership Conference, as well as looking to bring back an Early Career Member Conference and Mental Health Conference. I will share that information once plans are finalized.
Please urge your new and up-and-coming union leaders to register for the workshops that relate to the work they do. If you have questions regarding the registration process, deadlines, or problems, please contact Barbara Fox at the Nassau Regional Office ([email protected] or 516-496-2035). If you have questions about the content of the workshops, please contact me. Again, registration for all workshops will close on Thursday, October 3rd. Thank you!

In solidarity,
Kevin
