Dear Members, BMUST is proud to, once again, be working with the Community Cupboard to fulfill holiday wish lists for some of the families who utilize the Cupboard. If you'd like to buy a gift for someone, we've created Children and Adult sign-ups for families who could use a little extra help this holiday season. Those who simply wish to donate to our fund can do so via Venmo (@BMUST, last four digits 8842). All money collected will go towards purchasing wish list items. Any unopened items you might have around the house, will gladly be accepted as well. Gift Collection boxes will be located in the faculty rooms and monitored by members of our Womens' Committee. Suggested gift card amount: $25 Gifts should be unwrapped and labeled with your name and/or the age & gender listed. Items can be sent directly to Meg Hirsch, at Brookside, or dropped in the collection box in your building by Friday, December 5. Our Holiday Social will be Friday, December 5, details attached. Thank you for your generosity and support!

The BMUST LAP (Local Action Project) Team has been collaborating with NYSUT to strengthen our union. Through LAP, we’ll be launching a series of initiatives aimed at improving communication, increasing member engagement, and ensuring every voice is heard. Our first initiative—the BMUST One-on-One Initiative—will launch soon. Each member will be paired with a building representative who will reach out for a brief, informal check-in. This is an opportunity to connect face-to-face, see how you’re doing, and answer any questions you may have. Your head building representative will share more details in the coming weeks. We’re excited to reconnect with everyone and continue building a stronger, more responsive union together. If you have any questions as the One-on-One Initiative rolls out, please don’t hesitate to reach out. In Solidarity, The BMUST LAP Team Anthony Brandofino, Sean Formato, Andrew Franklin, Kristin Fusaro, and Rob Walsh -- Rob Walsh President If you have recently experienced a life event (birth of a child, marriage, divorce) and would like to update your designation of beneficiary, please complete the attached form and return it to the union office at your earliest convenience. -- Rob Walsh President

Dear Colleagues,Earlier today, many of you received an email from a group called "Opt Out Today" encouraging you to withdraw from NYSUT (see attached screenshot). BMUST wants to make sure you know who is behind this email and what their agenda is.
The email was sent by the Freedom Foundation, a wealthy, out-of-state organization whose goal is to weaken public-sector unions like ours. Some of you might also have received postcards from them in the mail. Their goal is to mislead members into leaving the union, and ultimately giving up their rights – including our contractual rights to due process, the grievance process and fair treatment, and the many benefits and protections we have worked hard to achieve. These outside groups target our union because we've been successful through our collective efforts. In a recent email, I reminded you of AFT's and NYSUT's recent wins (universal school meals, cell phone bans, increased school funding, and fixes to Tier 6, to name a few). At the local level, BMUST works every day to enforce our contract and ensure our members are protected – our union is our voice. Please do not click the links in their emails and discard any postcards that might arrive in the mail. These attacks are meant to divide us. Our unity is our strength, and that is exactly why they are targeting us. You can learn more about these anti-union campaigns by visiting NYSUT's Fight Back Campaign website and reviewing the attached flyer. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Best, Dennis Dear Colleagues,
First, thank you to the BMUST members who attended the Fix Tier 6 rally in Freeport last Monday. Here are a few photos from the event: NYSUT will host a large statewide Fix Tier 6 Rally in Albany on March 8, 2026, so please SAVE THE DATE. They will provide bus transportation and food. In other political action news, because of NYSUT members like you, we’re achieving significant wins for New York’s students: universal school meals, increased funding for CTE and higher education, cell phone-free classrooms, the HEAT Act, and the Freedom to Read Act. Please visit NYSUT's Member Action Center to email legislators and thank them for their support at https://mac.nysut.org. Be sure to download the MAC app to stay updated on the latest actions. Additionally, the American Federation of Teachers has been actively working to protect public education nationwide. Visit their AFT Action Center to get involved and learn how you can participate in upcoming AFT events. Finally, please remember to contribute to VOTE-COPE, which helps us safeguard pensions, tenure, collective bargaining, and strong public schools by supporting candidates and policies to protect educators and students across New York. In addition, 40% of all contributions are returned to BMUST. Please contact Heather Castellano at Mepham if you have any questions. Have a great week, and stay involved! Best, Dennis and Heather Dear BMUST Members,
Just a quick reminder that our annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is happening on Sunday, October 19, at Jones Beach, Field 5. We will gather at 7:30 AM, and together we’ll step forward in solidarity, hope, and determination to end breast cancer. This event is more than just a walk—it’s a chance to come together as a community, to honor survivors, support those currently fighting, and remember those we’ve lost. Every step we take and every dollar raised brings us closer to a world without breast cancer. If you can’t walk with us in person, you can still make a powerful impact by donating online through our American Cancer Society website: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/BMUST. Your generosity directly supports groundbreaking research, patient care, and lifesaving programs for individuals and families who need it most. Let’s make this year’s walk one to remember. Bring your friends, family, and colleagues—let’s walk together with purpose and pride. Thank you for standing with us in this worthy cause. Your participation truly makes a difference! -Bruce Reed BMUST Public Relations Dear Colleagues, Remember that the Fix Tier 6 rally is scheduled for Monday, October 6, at 4:00 PM.
